Cold Sores Home Remedies
Cold sores are not only painful but they can be very embarrassing as well. It seems like every time something big is going on such as, a special event or important meeting, a cold sore will appear. This is probably because stress can cause the herpes virus to become reactive and the sores will appear.
Regardless of what causes them, the goal of everyone suffering from these sores is to find a way to get rid of them. These sores can’t be cured because there is no cure for the herpes virus at this time but there are a few home remedies that can help. Some of these are listed below:
- Use petroleum jelly on the sore to help speed up the healing process and to also protect it from being infected with bacteria.
- When going out in the sun, use sunscreen that is at least a 15 SPF to prevent the suns rays from re-activating the virus.
- Never touch, squeeze or try to pick at the sores because this will make it spread.
- Avoid the triggers that cause this virus to reappear whenever possible.
- Take steps to keep the area clean and dry.
- Some people use witch hazel to help dry up the blisters and heal the sores faster.
- Using a water-based zinc solution as soon as the first tingle begins can help to speed up the healing time.
- Lysine is a supplement that has been proven to help relieve the symptoms of this virus.
Once you start feeling the tingling sensations that is the first sign of a cold sore, you can use one of the home remedies listed above to help stop it before it begins. Even if they don’t make the sores go away completely, they can help to reduce the discomfort and reduce the severity of the outbreak. This would be a big relieve for many people.
