Eye Herpes Pictures – Knowing the Signs

Eye herpes is also called ocular herpes and is one of those infections you get from HSV 1, which is the same type of virus that causes cold sores. These infections are actually common, although cases involving the eyes are fewer. Cold sores are sometimes misidentified because symptoms are generally similar to other skin disorders. Characteristics of this viral infection are blisters or sores on the affected area. In cold sores, the mouth and lips are affected. HSV 1 can cause infection on the cornea. In rare cases, the virus may affect the inner portion of the eyes.
Experts don’t fully understand how HSV 1 infection initially develops. Researchers think that people already have the virus early in life, but it remains dormant for long periods, during which no symptoms manifest. The appearance of symptoms may mean activation of the virus, which happens as a result of immunity suppression.
Symptoms of eye herpes are blurred vision, painful eyes, sensitivity to light, and sore eyes. Painful bumps or sores on eyelids may also be present. Most cases of eye herpes involve only the superficial layer of the cornea and may heal without scarring. Common eye herpes treatment involves antiviral eye drops. Steroid drops may relieve inflammation and prevent scarring of the cornea in more severe cases of eye herpes. Make sure you see a doctor before trying any treatment.
