Herpes Mouth

Herpes mouth is another word for oral herpes. It’s an infection that is caused by the herpes simplex virus or HSV and it can be a very painful condition. When you have this virus the sores usually appear on the lips although, they can also appear on your tongue, inside of the cheeks, gums and the roof of your mouth. Some people suffer with muscle aches, a sore throat, fatigue, swollen lymph nodes and a fever as well.

The outbreaks usually last for approximately ten days from the time you see the first sign until the sores heal and disappear but it can take a little longer in some cases. Herpes of the mouth, just like genital herpes, cannot be cured but there are treatments available that can help make it less painful and lower the frequency of the outbreaks.

Over the counter medications designed for cold sores can help to relieve the symptoms of this virus. These are usually in the form of a tropical cream. Still, it’s advised that you see your doctor to be diagnosed to make sure this is what you have.

They may need to prescribe you with a treatment if the outbreaks are often and severe.

Taking steps to stay healthy will help to reduce the number of outbreaks as well. It’s a known fact that an infected person is more susceptible to an outbreak when they are sick, stressed or have a weakened immune system. Exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet and taking good care of your body will make a difference.

When you come in contact with a person who is infected with the herpes simplex virus it can easily be spread through kissing, touching the area where the blisters are located or sharing utensils and drinking cups when the person has an outbreak. However, it’s important to realize that it can also be spread when there are no signs of an outbreak. Due to this fact, it’s estimated that the majority of all people are infected with at least one subtype of herpes before they become an adult.
