Is There Any Vaginal Herpes Treatment Available?

Vaginal herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection among women, and it’s caused by the same virus (Herpes Simplex virus) that causes cold sores. There are actually two Herpes Simplex Viruses, which are designated as HSV Type I and HSV Type II. You can develop vaginal sores in and around the vaginal region if you catch any of the two viruses. In men, they also cause penile outbreaks or sores.
It is easy to spot these sores because they look like blisters. These sores or blisters appear quickly and can vanish quickly too. The viruses actually bury deep into the skin and attach themselves to the nerves. An outbreak is a term that describes the appearance of multiple blisters in an area. The blisters may disappear, but it doesn’t mean the viruses are gone. The viruses can remain dormant for so long and then return to cause blisters months later.
Like a common cold, there is no treatment that can eliminate the viruses. In other words, there is no surefire vaginal herpes treatment. However, there are medications that can help ease the symptoms and reduce the duration of the outbreaks. Doctors usually prescribe antiviral medications, which alleviate symptoms and lessen the severity of the blister attacks.
Experts are convinced that stress is a triggering factor that can cause eruption of blisters or recurrence of the lesions. Stress management, therefore, is essential to controlling the frequency and severity of the outbreaks.
The importance of going to a doctor cannot be overemphasized. At the first sign of blisters in the genital region, consult a physician. Leaving the disease unseen can make you vulnerable to other health problems. Keep in mind it’s a sexually transmitted infection. You can infect your partner!
