Signs of Genital Herpes
Genital herpes is a disease that is passed from one individual to another through sexual contact. It generally will affect a male or female’s sexual organs; the butt, genitalia, thigh or anus. Though it also can be found in the mouth as a sore normally due to the performance of oral sex and on a woman’s cervix.
There are two different types of the genital herpes disease, also know as HSV (Herpes Simplex Virus), they are HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-2 is the most popular of the two and typically reoccurs unlike those who have HSV-1. Generally, herpes outbreaks will occur four times a year, though those with a weakened immune system may get them more frequently.
HSV can show up as small red bumps that most often appear as sores. Over a period of days they will become encrusted and than heal and disappear until the next outbreak. A doctor may prescribe that you be treated with antiviral medications during your outbreak so that the sore will heal more rapidly.
HSV often may go unrecogized and can often be mistaken for other diseases. Genital herpes is a highly contagious disease and affects more the 45 million people living in the United States over the age of 12.
