Stages Of Herpes Outbreaks

Oral herpes or cold sores are a common type of herpes which causes blister around the lips or different parts of the face. It is an annoying and painful experience that may change your life. Eight out of 10 people have the virus which is the source of cold sores. Until today, there is no definite cure have been discovered for the disease.

Cold sores are fluid-filled red blisters on the lips and skin around the lips. The blisters may also show in the face or cheeks which may or may not be painful. Some people who suffering from herpes may only notice tickling or itching but others find them painful especially when the fluid present in the blisters weep and leaks out.

Usually the cold sores last for 7 day or 12 days. It passes through different stages from tingling, blister, weeping, scabbing, and healing stage. Cold sores are can spread through kissing or by sharing things such as lipstick or anything that touches the lips and skin around them. Despite the fact that cold sores are contagious, some people may not experience outbreaks.

In the case of genital herpes, it is transmitted through sexual contact with another person and may be quite painful during the first outbreak that usually comes out 4-7 days after infection and the healing on average lasts for 10-20 days. The common symptoms of genital herpes are sores around swollen gland in the groin, discharges from vagina or penis, thorny urination, fever, headache ad muscle aches. People suffering from genital herpes may experience one or more of these symptoms.

The stages of herpes outbreak are almost similar to cold sores, they only differ in the areas affected. Genital herpes may develop in the following stages.

  • Red bumps formation and may be susceptible, itchy, or painful.
  • Swelling in the areas affected.
  • Blisters become visible with fluids within them.
  • Weeping stage where blister open up and leaks up fluid
  • Healing of the sores and dry-up as new skin develop underneath the scab
  • Crust falls off and the sores are healed.

There are different treatment options that can be applied for herpes and control of its possible outbreaks.  There is no cure for herpesvirus. Once you have it, it stays in your body which may reoccur anytime. You cannot completely prevent the outbreaks however, you can cut down the recurrence of herpes outbreak and how long it last every time.
