Throat Herpes Pictures and Symptoms

Oral herpes is an infection caused by a virus that also causes cold sores or mouth sores. It can be called throat herpes if it particularly affects the throat. It’s common for people with oral herpes to suffer from lesions on the throat. This contagious viral infection can recur a few times in a year. The infection can be extremely bothersome and can disrupt function of the afflicted. The affected individual will have to limit contact with people to avoid transmission of the infection. The infection is characterized by sores on the lips, inner cheeks, tongue, and throat.

Generally, there are two types of herpes in humans—oral herpes and genital herpes. Both are caused by herpes simplex viruses, which come in two types—HSV1 and HSV2. HSV1 causes oral herpes or cold sores. This virus affects the throat, mouth, lips, face, and eyes. It can spread through direct contact. You can catch HSV1 infection by touching or kissing the affected area of the sufferer. You can also catch oral herpes if you perform oral sex on someone with gential herpes. Some people suffer from herpes without issuing symptoms or sores.

Throat herpes is characterized specifically by lesions on the throat lining, often seen as red or white patches on the throat and tongue. In some cases, it is difficult to distinguish between ordinary throat sores and throat herpes. So you have to go to your doctor for accurate diagnosis. The lesions may be accompanied by fever, swollen lymph nodes, and difficulty swallowing.
