Topical Treatments for Genital Herpes

By julius On January 30, 2009 Under Herpes Information, Herpes Simplex

Genital herpes is among the most common sexually transmitted diseases that are very common today. Primarily caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), a standard herpes outbreak features the onset of redness and swelling on the affected part, along with the growth of fluid-filled sores, which may at times look reddish, and usually found around the genitals, thighs, anus and cheeks, mouth or other parts of the body.  A number of prescription medications and topical treatments for genital herpes are also employed by doctors.  However, there are some who prefer using traditional, herbal and even homeopathic therapies.

Patients who suffer from these herpes symptoms also encounter bouts of fever, flu, general weakness, muscle aching and even painful urination.  The fluid-filled blisters may also grow and infect other areas of the body, such as the anal region and the mouth.  Recurring herpes outbreaks may also happen, and patients may as well succumb to an accompanying fever, colds, and some sensitivity to touch.  There are a number of topical treatments for genital herpes sold in pharmacies today, and among these are Dynamiclear, H-Away and H-Prevention.  Some physicians also advise their patients to try other topical alternatives that contain ingredients such as zinc, lithium succinate, aloe, propolis and some nutritional supplements made from lysine.  Some herbs such as licorice root, eucalyptus, lemon balm, aloe vera and turmeric have also been found to offer promising results in containing the harmful effects of genital herpes.

Basically, a wide array of topical treatments for genital herpes are available in stores and pharmacies in the United States.  However, it would be best if you do some research, and find out which therapies work well for your symptoms. Apart from buying topical and antiviral herpes medications, patients are constantly advised to use condoms when having sex, to guard their partners from having infected with the said virus. However, it would be best if patients refrain from any form of sexual contact during the infection period.
